Not broken per say, but out and loose. I can see rivets that can be drilled out, but wanted to know if anyone had replaced theirs. No damage to the boom or gooseneck, so just want to re-install. I haven't taken it apart yet to see what exactly failed to keep it connected. It is an 18' 1981 model. Much thanks.

There is a retaining clip that gets installed in the groove on the end of the gooseneck pin (inside the boom). This is what holds the pin on the boom. The clip likely failed. You need to remove the two rivets that hold the forward end cap on the boom, take off the end cap, and install the retaining clip on the gooseneck pin. Then reinstall the end cap.

The black cast cap end is broken off inside- not providing a full radial flush mount for the end tab of the gooseneck. Can I simply drill a couple extra holes through the boom and gooseneck and bolt wtih stainless or does the gooseneck need to rotate freely? If it must rotate freely I will simply drill the gooseneck alone to function as the stop tab. My next step would be to get a new cast endcap, but want to make things work for now. Thanks again.

Ideally the gooseneck pin should be able to rotate to some extent (does not need to be 360 degrees, but at least probably 15). This way as the boom flops around, it does not overstress the gooseneck connection.
