Further to my other post I went back out this afternoon when the wind came up, right in the middle of a jibe a gust came along and just stuffed the bows and roller her over on here side. Two things I know for sure 1- I am not heavy enough to right here by myself. 2-- even if I got her up I can not get back on the boat as it has too much freeboard and I am to short and just a little overweight to lift my hulkiness on board. So I just sat on the lower hull till she made landfall, then set her back up and was on my way. I made some foot holds out of 1" line that I was going to tie one on each side at the back but never got around too it. Humm still had loads of fun.

I'll also have to find a swim ladder or something for my Getaway. What about the basic 2 or 3 step stainless boarding ladders at Princess Auto. Mount it on the forward cross bar with good hardware and backing plates.

How about a loop of rope long enough to go a foot under the water to give you a step. On the H16, it could be attached to the rear corner of the tramp's frame, not sure on the Getaway where/how to attach it.

Do you Canadians sail with a beer cooler on board?

I can't speak for all our fine Canadian sailors but I do ocsionally throw a few beer (MGD) and some ice into one of the coolers. 8)

If you live in (or visiting) British Columbia this may be of note to have it possibly spoil your great day on the water:

Quoted from ICBC:

http://www.icbc.com/road-safety/safer-d ... ed-driving

"Police in B.C. can now issue an immediate roadside prohibition to an impaired driver with a blood-alcohol content (BAC) of .05 or higher. (The BAC is based on a breath sample into a roadside screening device.)"

The same laws apply for boating.

These are the toughest laws in North America and downright Draconian. Yet they are what they are.... :|

Btw: The BAC legal limit is .08 elsewhere in most places in North America...

Yah m8, I roll my eyes too. If you have a cold and or cough, the amount of alcohol in most cough medicines can put you at odds with the law in BC...so can one beer after consumption (real beer that is...)

You asked about the ladders

Just like any other gear that you barely ever need, it has to be low profile yet available to you even if the boat has done the Turtle...

I vote for Number Nine.

Why cause you can stow it at the ready to you, so it becomes less of a pain in the butt as a solid ladder could be.

Only if you can reach it by a quick reach from the water, no matter in which direction your boat's keels are pointed!

Just a thought, bud
Fred

Have you ever put your full wight on a round rope?
You will find the experience very painful. If that idea was to be implemented I strongly suggest 1" or 2" webbing to spread the load better on the soles of your feet.

This is from an ex climber that has done thousands of feet on Jumars and webbing loops to climb a fixed rope.

#5 looks good to me. Simple, takes little room; etc.

I use a Califo  rnia Innovations cooler because it has a liner that can be taken out and washed. I sail with beer every time I go out and a small flask with one drink of rum for the wife. I sailed in races with beer. Take a few sandwiches in a waterproof container some grapes a couple of cokes and sunflower seeds and you are set. Just make sure your other half can drive at the end of the day.
