I totally agree w/ you on #1. It's far too easy to derail a good online conversation w/ personality clashes, usually based upon misunderstandings. It would be far better to pm someone your concern first. Once it becomes public, folks get their feathers up, things escalate and often become absurd.
Aside from that, I prefer a forum free of censorship. It requires that we all endure a little serial whining, tasteless humor, over-posting and far too many
, but it usually sorts itself out. (I'm amazed at what I get away with, at times).
Hobie has been very tolerant of members, in regards to thread content, tone and even direct criticism. Heck- whenever you gather a bunch of sailors in one place you have to be.
. But I have to say, I am impressed.
Matt's approach, that this forum can largely be "self regulating" seems to be working. When that fails, filtering "foes" seems useful too.
