How do you know when you are looking for a used 18 if its a Magnum or not is there a difference?

The 18 magnum has "wings" that fold out on each hull for additional area to hike out. The regular 18 does not have the wings.

Not so fast, magnum wings are between the crossbars. There are also forumula/SX wings that extend above and below the crossbars.

Also:

Mast height, wing style, and anodizing matter. A boat with clear anodized crossbars, magnum wings, and a 30' mast has been pieced together from 3 different 18s.

If you go to Forums at the top of your screen and then go to the 18/ 18sx forum you will find at the very top the FAQ thread which has pictures and illustrations of each of the variations and the specs for them. That should clear up your Q.
