MD - Southern Maryland

I just moved to Southern Maryland (St. Mary's) an am looking for a good place to put in...... also any info on clubs would be great

Welcome to MD. I don't know of too many places that are public access, at least around Annapolis. I have put in at Sandy Point which is a park/beach just north of the Bay Bridge on US 50. It's an OK place to launch.

My apartment complex has a boat ramp that will do in a pinch, but it's just for residents.

I know of a cat club on the West River http://www.wrcra.org They are a very active racing group.

If you ever plan to come up near Annapolis, let me know (Hobienick at hotmail dot com) and we can take both the boats out.

Thanks, Im down a Pax Naval Air Station. I may come up to Annapolis later in the year, but for now i am looking for spots down here. The marina on base has a ramp, but it is not sandy anywhere. Well thanks again for the info and illhit you up if I come North.

You can launch from a boat ramp and docks. You don't need a sandy beach, it is much more fun though. For the first three years I was sailing Hobies I didn't do a beach launch.

If you have a ramp near you, use it. The easier it is to get the boat on the water the more you will sail. If you have to drive 30 minutes every time it will become a pain.

There is a boat ramp under the Solomons Island side of that tall skinny bridge. There is room for parking the car and trailer. Even a West Marine store within walking distance if you need any last minute parts. This would allow you to sail up to Solomns Island and up and down the Patuxent River. Just be careful because the currents can be strong.

The only downside is that you have to tow your boat over the bridge to get there from Pax River.

Thanks everyone for the info, Ill be useing the base's marinia for now. Anyone know of any products that take oxidization off of the hulls? I have seen TV comercials about a "buff ball" that does it, anyone have any sugestions?

Auto wax and lots of elbow grease. There are some gel coat restoration products out there. Do a search on the catsailor's forum. I know there was a huge discussion last summer about it.
