Can someone advise whether the "completely new" rudder design to replace
to original one, that had issues on the tandem island, has been launched,
and is now shipped with the TI ?

Any photos to the compare the old and new versions ?

I am not talking about the "replacement kit", but the actual long term solution
that Hobie says they were working on.

Thanks

It certainly has and it's great! Like getting power steering! 8)
We here downunder were one of the last to receive the upgrade.
The replacement kit is the long term solution as far as I'm aware.

Thanks. Presumably that means that new TI's distributed to Hobie dealers
here in Australia, now come with the new rudder already fitted ?

You could always ask as a condition of sale.
It is not that difficult a modification and you have a twist and stow that you can scavenge parts from if you do it yourself.

Here are a couple photos of the rudders. The new one on top and the old on bottom.

Also, here is the video showing the upgrade procedure:

Yes, all new 2012 model AI / TI have the new rudder. Any Australian Hobie Kayak dealer would have this information. All 2011 AI / TI had rudder kits sent to dealers in Australia.

Did you call your dealer??? Great source of information, the Australian Hobie dealer(s).

Great to see a simple phone call to the local dealer sorted your question out.
Hope to see you on the water soon.
