I want to set up my Adventure Island so I can swap my eVolve motor between it and my Outback.

Does anyone know what comes with the eVolve cable kit?

72021031 EVOLVE CABLE KIT (2ND HULL)

I also noticed there is a V2 kit:

72022031 EVLOVE v2 CABLE KIT (2ND HULL)

What is the difference between the two?

If I want to get a V2 battery to use with my V1 eVolve, do I need to get a whole new cable kit?

Does the V2 cable kit work with a V1 eVolve?

V2 cables are required for the V2 battery / motor. You can not inter-change the two. There is no adapter to make a V2 battery work on a V1 system, so if looking for a spare battery, we can get you a V1.

The cable kits have everything needed to set up two boats just as you described. All of the internal cables and the through hull fittings are included.

So if I want to get the solar charging capability (when it's released) I will have to get a whole new system? I was hoping that all I needed was the V2 battery.

Does the cable kit come with the ram ball mount for the throttle controller as well?

Yes. Only V2 is compatible with the solar option. There was a discussion about designing an adapter for the V1 system to use the V2 battery, but Torqeedo didn't go that way.

The cable kit does not include the throttle mount.

Thanks Matt,

Is there an ETA on the Solar option yet? I need to decide if I want to fit out my AI with my V1 system or perhaps look at a V2.

I have not heard any update lately. Our engineers have been doing testing and working out the connections / through hull issues.

Thanks Matt,

One last question. :D

Will I be able to reuse the holes in my hull if I decide to upgrade from V1 to V2? e.g. is it a straight swap out of the cables and fittings?

Yes, same type of through hull fittings (dimension).

Matt,

I was just talking to a technician at Torqeedo USA and would like you to verify something for me.

If I understood what he told me correctly, the Hobie eVolve v2 motor and remote throttle can plug directly into the battery without using the included cable kit. Is this correct?

If this is correct and assuming it was the case with v1 also, the OP (or anyone else) could use his eVolve on other boats without the cable kit. They would just have the battery and cabling exposed as they do with the Ultralight model.

I am interested in this becuase I want to know if I can use an eVolve v2 this way while I ponder fabricating a rear rod holder based mount utilizing the included twist n stow rudder mounting hardware. I don't want to put the through hull connector in until I'm sure where I will have the motor mounted.

Edit: I guess I could do what I want either way, just would be less cable on deck to deal with if I could plug directly into the battery.

That should be the case. The "Cables' we are talking about are like in-hull extension cords and connect to thru hull fittings... that you then plug the shorter cables to. This is all built Torqeedo stuff, so they should know.

I don't know about the V2, but the cables on the motor and controller are very short on the V1. It would be very difficult to use them without extension cables.

Matt or anyone that can help.

I'd like to buy a V2 for my upcoming purchase of an Oasis and use it in the forward well with the batteries in the bow hatch and the control and readout display in the aft position.

Will the control cable run that distance?

I know the evolve battery is a series/parallel configuration for raising capacity and I'm not a fan of that. Also, since the cylinder cells used have a cell voltage different than the common (for single cell) of 3.2 volts, I have seen two different final voltages, 28.8 and 29.6 volts. I would prefer to build my own battery bank using single 3.2 volt cells rated at 60 a/hr and the more common 25.6 volt final pack voltage. Plus, this increased bank capacity would not only give much better range, it would be a good ballast for trim when I'm solo in the aft seat. Combine the above with the cycle life of 3000 vs 800 for the Torqeedo battery, and the fact the cost per w/hr is cheaper, and you can see my desire to not even use the cylinder cells of the Torqeedo. Can I purchase the V2 without the battery, and since range and remaining charge is based on the slightly higher voltages of the Torqeedo batteries, can the controller be programmed for my voltage and capacity like the Torqeedo 4.0R when using my own batteries?

I know I have the option to use (9) cells in series for a pack voltage of 28.8 volts and I think my Engel marine freezer which is designed to run on the normal 24 volt system that is 25.6 volts at full charge would handle it fine. It is just that solar charging a 28.8 volt bank with available solar panels, the charge taper (as voltage differential becomes smaller) would happen at an earlier state of charge, thus take much longer to fully charge.

Thanks all for any help on this.

All of the control circuitry is located within the battery control box, so I say no. There is quite a lot of software involved too. Maybe a contact direct to Torqeedo would be better for the battery cell questions. torqeedo.com

The power cable is 170" The control cable is 160"

Thanks Matt for the cable lengths. Until it is past warranty I'll probably just feed my lithium pack's voltage into the charge port because I'm sure that box has seals to ascertain if anyone has opened it up. I'll just have to buy (9) 3.2 volt, 60 a/hr cells to have a voltage that will flow once the Torqeedo pack is at 80% DOD.
