Just curious...anyone have GPS measured speeds vs. wind speed for a Bravo?

hit 13 kts on Barneget Bay in NJ in about 20-25 in a puff on a reach. Get 10kts a lot on the lake I sail on, just not enough runway to really get going.

One of my goals next year is to find out exactly how fast I can get the Bravo up to, and also to find out what an average speed is on an average day. Having said that, I'd say that 10 to 11 knots is regularly attainable. (18 to 20 km/h)

I have a theory that the Bravo is fastest with both hulls in the water, as opposed to keeping one just skimming above, like the bigger cats do. I think because the boat is so narrow, you end up losing sail performance when you heel too much. By the time you get a hull out of the water on a Bravo, the boat is over quite a ways. But I haven't proven that yet.

I've kept pace with BIG cabin cruisers, and it's fun to "race" them on gusty days because when a gust hits a big boat, it just heels over more. When it hits the Bravo, it's virtually instant speed. I work a lot harder than the other skippers do, (as they're sipping their wine!) but it's also pretty obvious who is having the most fun!

All cats including the Bravo design will sail faster if you keep those hulls wet.

The greater the wetted surface the higher the boat speed.

To validate this I use a Foretrek 401 wrist mounted waterproof GPS to verify speed. for example, this past weekend in 10 to 15 air, I hit 11 or 12 knots pretty steady. But if I lifted a hull, I gradually slowed down.

I KNOW the Wave can approach 20 knots, and the Bravo ought to be right here around 15-17 or so, maybe even more depending on balls and skill.

Have a great New Year's Eve, no drinking and driving please!

I am going to buy a bravo in the spring, it is the most practical boat for my needs. Does anyone have any good videos of the boat moving at a good speed, because you tube dos not have many.
thanks

In the first one, I was trying to hot dog it in a turn. Pulled it off beautifully until I hit the record button on the camera! Lost my hat too...

In this one, it just sort of shows the speed.

Finally, tipping... Nice and easy, no biggie.

They're all available in HD, hope that gives you some of what you're looking for.

Great video!

I have a GPS mounted on the A-Frame and max out at ~18km/hr (typically just a few white caps). It really lifts out of the water at 12-14km/hr. Gotta keep a close eye on the bows to make sure that they don't submerge!

Really? I don't find that's too much of a problem with my Bravo. It's happened a few times, but maybe I'm just sitting back further.

I see you're from Canada. Where do you sail?

Thanks for the videos! That boat can move. I can't wait to purchase one, this might be the best summer ever.

No, I am near there. I boat on lake hopatcong. Actually bought a fishing boat from a guy that lives next to that lake, right behind the market basket.

Got out Saturday, good wind but cold. The spray was freezing on the hull and it was slick. Was able to stay out for about a hour.
