Recently I bought some used Blocks from a guy and they were a bit sticky. I soaked them 3 days in a bowl with Hot water and about ½ cup of dish soap now they are free as a bird. This got me thinking though what other home remedies are there for Hobies and their up keep. I know that the bar keepers friend works great on tramps but there has to be other budget minded out of the box thinkers out there like myself. I look forward to the stories of what works and what was a disaster.

Old fashoned wax candle rubbed on the mainsail bolt rope makes life a lot easier and cheaper than teflon spray.

Dish washing soap works well as a main traveler lubricant.
You can put your main sheet and jib sheet in a bucket(or sink/bathtub) of water and liquid fabric softener to loosen them up so they aren't so stiff.

Find someone with an ice boat, and give it go.

I've already loaned out my Laser for the race, so I am offering up my Hobie 16 for the regatta.

It is a 1984 with a tight tramp. old Super Rudders and recent sails (108136).

Cure your Winter Blues!

Tempting...
But ever since moving to Canada, I got addicted to the Canadian universal heath care. Then, got a slight allergy to guns...

OK, I may visit, one day.

Anyhow, here in BC, we've just got a good dump of snow, so I think I'll go skiing . See if this helps. :)

Cheers

To free up my block I used an air compressor. I sprayed whatever various lubes I had into the gaps then used the air to deliver it all the way into the bearings. This will also dislodge dirt from it, and free up a severely stuck block. It went from being almost completely stuck to just one spot in the revolution where it would stick a little. I'll try your trick and see if I can get my block to full working condition.

I would also need an axe to make my way through the ice. Ice..., you know, that stuff the comes from some refrigerators, you use to make your drinks nice and cool. Here in Canada it occurs naturally in winter.
