This should be a fun event! The Sprint Course is a very scenic 14 mile ride from Newport Beach to Dana Point. This course would be perfect for an Island and there is one signed up already with more to come. The longer courses are 70 and 91 miles and end in San Diego. There is an 18 foot minimum boat length and a few more regulations for the longer two courses.

I'm signed up. I hope we can get enough Adventure Islands to make a class.
The logistics of this run are horrible. The start and finish lines are very far apart, so team effort is helpful to ferry the car or truck to Dana Point.

Who wants to do a trial run with me a month early?

Dan - are you doing it on a TI or a Trifoiler?
I'd like to take the Wild Cat! :)

I'm planning to do an AI. Launching is so much easier single handed than a TriFoiler. Plus the chance of having enough wind for a TF is like 1 out of 30+, especially by a 11am start time.

Good to see you were able to get registered! I know there will be more to enter as the race nears.

I'm interested, with my AI tandem. The Transparentsea (sic?) thing was great fun.

I went to Newport last Saturday to check the launching site at Corona del Mar, they won't allow us to take boats on the beach. So I went to the Harbor patrol office and asked about the use at the beach right there. They are cool about launching and it is totally free. Parking is limited, so get there early or you'll end up way down the street. Here is the link for viewing the spot of where I am going to put in. http://g.co/maps/73sh4

We can rig in the parking lot, roll the boat down to the end of the building and then across the sand. keep the cart wheels on board during the race for when we get to Dana Pt. It will be convenient to have them at the ramp when arriving after the race.
Whoever we elect to have a car waiting at Dana Pt. can ride us back to Newport. It would be nice to have a dry set of clothes in this car. It takes about 30 to 40 minutes to drive between Newport and Dana Pt.
We need to coordinate a meet time in Dana Pt.

Dana Point is having it's whale festival this weekend. Parking is going to be really tough. I'm planning on getting there very early and leave my car.

I see Border Run 2 for June 2012 with details and reg starting yesterday....FAIL. Not there when you try to register.
Anyone have details? I have an AI and want to do the "Multi Sprint" do they limit which course or legs you can do?
My AI has more electronics for going out than some do on big boats.
(VHF, GPS/Chart plotter, Spot emergency locator...yada yada)

when I sailed the Border Run in March the race committee was very good at answering my email questions. In the race, boats under 18' were limited to the sprint course. I might race to Newport and then sail to Dana Point.
Hope to see you there.

Congrats to Greg Ketterman on winning the sprint. Wish I could have been there to see him blow past my AI.

Dan was close behind.

Any hobie video or commentary of the event?

Well done. What fun!

I'm sure those mirage drives only came out AFTER you crossed the finish line,...
