My buddy Lance and I are planning a sail and camping trip to Cayo Costa State Park,Florida March 13 to the 18th. We will sail down from about 50 mile north of the state park Monday the 12th. I am sailing my Hobie 21SE and Lance will be on his O'day 22.We will met up with a group of other sailboats.

If anyone else wants to join in than make some reservation. :D

Launching in Sarasota?

Cruise down the Intercoastal and stop at Cabbage Key for lunch. Bring an extra dollar to pin on the wall. Many moons ago we camped at the north end of Boca Grande. On one of the days we circumnavigated Cayo Costa.

Whatta Day!

Where should I launch and leave my tow vehicle while camping on the island? :) Is one place safer then another?

Anything on Boca Grande will be pricey. Just north of Boca Grande at Placida is Eldred's Marina (941-697-1431) family type operation or Gasparilla Marina (800-541-4441) corporate operation. They have launching and probably parking. No public ramp with overnight parking in the area.

Fort Desoto Park has, in my opinion, the nicest launch facility in the area. For $5 a day, you can leave your vehicle/trailer in a spot for an extended period of time. It is very secure, and patrolled by park staff on a regular basis. Also, a beautiful sail South past Egmont Key, Anna Maria Island, etc. on the way down.

Fort Desoto is 100 miles north of Cayo Costa.
