Hi everyone I'm new here but a long time sailor I live in South florida and just bought a TI from Jon at Nautical ventures up in Fortlauderdale, so far I've gone camping to nest key in Fl bay twice about a 14 mile treck, love the boat but the first time out I had a hard time with the rudder control lever as I have a bad left hand, so I made a tiller that worked great the second trip. Has anyone had trouble with the little lever on long trecks :?: I'll try to post a photo of the tiller I made, huge difference in rudder control.

Gil

Welcome to the forum Gil. There have been many mods made to the rudder control to give more leverage. Especially now that tramps are popular, sailors like to get out of the seat, and extension poles made from old rake handles etc often find there way onto the forum. Personally, I haven't found the need to modify, but that's not to say that a photo of your design wouldn't change that.

Also looking forward to seeing some photos from your favorite sailing spots in South Florida.

Sounds like your weather is as unpredictable as ours at the moment. I have just posted a New Year video of my local sailing spot, and that was the last time it got wet. And this is supposed to be summer here.

You'll find that the search facility within the forum is invaluable for information gathering.

Looking forward to seeing your photos. Do you know how to download them onto the forum ? Can be tricky as you have to use an external provider as an interface. I use photobucket which is fairly user friendly.

i'm curious if i can get a water proof throw pillow and along with the tiller extender thing i can just relax out on the tramp in a more comfortable position :D seriously can someone mod one of these. i also want to see this tiller extender thing.

maybe i can just wrap a pillow in neoprene dry suit material and have it stitched tight.

Just lash one of these onto your rig

... even comes in different flavours

... just dont refer to them as tramp lounges or you may get deflated

PS - DO NOT tell them its an aftermarket tiller extender, let them think its all original equipment from the factory

My home made tiller, the carbon fiber tube collapses into four pieces.

This photo was taken at the Bogies, a channel from blackwater sound to Florida bay. This is the very place where Humphry Bogart and Kathrine Hepburn filmed the African Queen. Check out my tiller.

@passwind that is hilarious by the way.

thanks for the pics (the serious ones and the not so serious ones). i now see your tiller extenders but what would you call something that screws into the little steering handle thing that you use your left hand to steer with?

i thought there was supposed to be something designed to screw into the steering handle and then it would be like long stick you could steer with if you went out on the right side (starboard) side tramp.

Very simple, I'm planing to instal an inner tube that will telescope to the desired lengh so it could be used from any of the trampolines, since it's Carbon fiber it's feather lite. I would not trust applying more leverage to the little lever if the spectra brakes your on foot.

my rudder line actually broke on my 1st model TI when i was about 1.5 miles away from home. thankfully it was at the dock of the Hobie manufacturer though :D cuz this would have sucked a fatty to try and use a paddle to steer a TI,, or i guess i could have paddled but that would have probably sucked even more.
