Today I purchased an i14T :
Serial # HCCBK 047E809
UPC-A 792176750116

Can someone from Hobie tell me what is the year of manufacture of is this kayak ? ... I found the 2007-08 Accessories and Parts Catalog in the Owner's Package.

Does this i14T have the V2 Mirage drives or do I have to upgrade ??
Thanks,

It wouldn't be that simple for us to tell you what you have (since it is very real possibility that drives get shuffled around in a dealer's stock before the boats get sold?) To identify the parts just looks at the drives - if you have brass inserts in the sprockets that the masts screw into, in then you have V2

Your kayak is an early 2009 model made in May of 2008. The V-2 Drives came out with the 2009 models. As JB says, you can verify this by seeing the brass insert on the sprocket on the right, below.

If you don't have the V-2 sprockets, you probably at least have the V-2 drums, an important change that was incorporated in 2008. You can upgrade your Drive as appropriate. 8)

Be aware there are a number of folks that have upgraded their V1 drives with V2 sprockets to take advantage of the threaded mast rods for their Turbo Fins. My 2007 V1 drive is one of them. The most significant difference between the V1 and V2 drive is the drum. The V2 drum was modified to reduce chain breakage.

There are also a number of MirageDrives out there that are mixed V1/V2. The chains and drums were updated to V2 in the Spring of 2008 while the sprocket/mast upgrade came out for the 2009 model year change in the Fall of 2008

Thank you Gentlemen !
Due to your responses, I could verify that I do have V2 drives.
There is Fin upgrade in my future and possibly a sail. For now, I'll play around with the stock setup and make notes on what the base setup is like.
I pressurised the hull at about 2 psi and let it sit in the garage - so far so good.
The shakedown cruise is next ... Good or Bad, you will hear from me.
Thanks again for making this newbie feel welcome
