I would like to mount a pair of adjustable rod holders in the front two rod holders for my Outback. I don't like the angle of the built in holders for trolling as they keep the rod to high and close to the side. Is there an easy solution of an adjustable holder that will slip in the same holes or do I need to go with ram mount rod holders to get any adjustability. I would like to keep down the number of Ram ball mounts if possible. Any pictures or ideas would be a great help. Thanks, Dave

I use flush mount Scotty rod holders with an extension arm and the gear head in front of the built-in rod holders. I was careful not to interfere with the cables when I installed them.

I have a blurry picture posted on a similar discussion on the NWKA site.

I hope this helps.

If still interested in this. There is a local bloke here that gets the Scotty Flush Mount extender arms and removes the standard stainless steel length and puts in his own. They have a right angle at the top and bottom. I have mine mounted behind my fish finder because of the angles it is still easy to reach. Here is a link to his site if interested. http://stealthserpent.com/wordpress/?pa ... oduct_id=3 W

That is interesting Sprike, but it seems like you are throwing away a degree of freedom for a little extra length. I often fish with my rod crossed in front of me and I want to be able have it be higher like so.

You could not do that with the fixed arm on your boat. I guess it is a tradeoff. I am 6'4" and have long arms for my height so the extra length on the arm is not needed. I personally feel that they extra flexibility of where I can place the rod in a 3-dimensional space is important.
