Anybody notice that Hobie decided to recess the attachment anchor for the Mirage drive bungee cord? Well, good idea to get it down out of the way. However, now it is impossible to hook the bungee properly because the plastic hook interferes with the molded portion of the recess. You can see from the picture that the plastic hook is all twisted and barely hanging on to the anchor.

Did Hobie do this on all the 2012 Mirage Drive kayaks, or only the Revo 11?

Also, anyone know if the mold is being modified to address this issue?

There is no plan right now to modify the mold here. It's much easier to hook it in if you turn the hook clockwise and come at the padeye from the open side. It will hold pretty well at this angle.

I tried manipulating the hook several ways and could not find a way to get it to attach properly like it does on my 2011 Revo 13. I guess I will try again.

I don't understand how this can get into production with a company like Hobie. Did they not prototype this?

Mantaray, I agree with you -- that padeye is not really suitable for the bungee hook. I suspect both fittings are recessed to avoid protrusions that might hit the leg at full extension with some users. Alternately, it is usable as a leash anchor.

If you want to use the padeye to secure the pedal hook, you can tie a small loop of string on the padeye and hook the loop. It's easiest for me to flip the bungee hook outboard and secure it with the unused paddle bungee. 8)

I confess, I have two Hobie Kayaks (OB and A.), and have never used that bungee yet -- what's it for exactly? To secure the drive when it's out of the well?

It is to lock the fins in the up position when out of the water or in real shallow water so it does not drag or get hung up in the grass or other objects. My wife cannot carry the yak up hight so the turbo fins will open and drag on the pavement or sand or ground.

I just hate having to invent a new way to do something because of poor design of the intended storage location.

I know it is expensive to do modifications to the mold, but it wouldn't take much of a change for the hook to fit properly in the pad eye. I would expect Hobie to step up, admit they made a mistake, and fix it. That said, I am sure they have more pressing issues than this...
