Sample 1 day gallon size ziplock food resupply

Two packs of pre-cooked bacon - 1120 calories per pack = 2240
4 tortilla shells 320 calories
4 individual wrapped cheese sticks 480 calories
4 little Debbie marshmallow treats 640 calories (he wants more of these at next stage point and less trail bars)
5 Gus 500 calories
3 candy bars 720 calories
2 trail mix packs 300 calories
1 cliff bar 240 calories
1 M&M 250 calories
2 kashi bars 280 calories ( these are getting replaced next time with the msrshmellow treats)
1 Nescafé Coffee cafe mokaccino 90 calories
10 hard candies 300 calories
Total 6360

He also mixes and drinks powdered muscle milk when he comes to water sources. He had 2 small and 2 large servings for EC but left Key Largo with 4 large servings. Small serving 280; large serving 560. So that is another 2240 calories.

Total 8,600

BackWaterBob's Mast support weld tore out of the front of the Aka cross brace. We have seen this before in several postings. The newer boats have a plate that runs through the Aka cross brace and is welded on both sides. Both my 2010 TI and 2011 AI do not have this feature and I constantly worry about tearing out the weld. I have a picture of Bob's boat that I can post when I get the time...

Paul,
Thanks for that -much appreciated and congrats on your impressive result in the EC. A fantastic effort! 8)
So it was a mast bearing plate failure. I'm very familiar with that problem. In fact I was the first to post on these forums about it!
viewtopic.php?f=75&t=33638
I'm glad it's not a new issue with the TI, though I'd like to know what year BWB's TI is. This was supposed to be an early production welding issue.
I don't think you have to worry about it on the AI. As far as I know no AI has experienced this failure.
It is a concern on the TI with it's much greater sail area. I think the solution is to regularly check the tightness of all V-Brace/Aka bolts and to furl early on the TI. You just can't have all that sail out in strong winds. The mast bearing plate has now been strengthened but other issues such as mast base socket screws breaking and aka X-bars sliding arise.
I now furl between 15-20knots. and in gusty conditions have much less sail out than I would on the AI.

I must have just missed the cutoff date for the mast bearing plate double weld design. So this is now a standard design for both AI and TI is it ??

Loosing my main video camera did take the wind out of my sails. I still have some GoPro and my Iphone video. The GoPro video has very little sound and looks at the same point for hours. It makes it very challenging to create something that has a plot.

First two videos of the Start on line:

The end of that second video made me laugh. Get the sail set, start moving, CRASH right through a wave! Yep, that's Adventure Islanding! :D

Paul - Very interesting Windrider 17 in the first video. Complete with a deck, skirts and oars.

How do those fare in the race compared to the TI's?

Well the Windrider did not finish either, so they fared the same.

Thanks for posting what you had Paul. You must have been gutted loosing the camera but at least you have salvaged some good footage.

Your videos give us an idea of what to expect when our contingency from downunder come over to rein-act the 1983's America's Cup.

Here's a video I finally got around to putting together. It shows the pre-race and the beginning of the race. It also has footage with all the Ultimate Florida Challengers completing the race.

You'll see Josh (TideTraveler) starting out and video with Paul (Dogs Life), Keith (Chekika), Charlie (Bosab), Nick (Pelican) and a few other AI sailors in the footage. The reason for the bagpipe music is that there were bagpipes playing when the race started.

Terrific video Jim! Really captures the beginning--every contestant starts with such enthusiasm and high hopes. Nice that you volunterred to be at the finish for the Ultimate Florida Challenge. I like MosquitoMagnet's 360 deg roll at the finish--nice touch.

Thanks for you and Yvonne taking time to put the video together.

Keith

Thanks for posting those videos Paul and Jim. 8)
The GoPro pole footage gave us a great overall view. What a tragedy losing that camera.
To see the start and finish complements Keith's race updates and I now have a much better understanding of this unique race.
Wish we had one like it downunder.

Q- What's the definition of a gentleman?
A- Someone who can play the bagpipes.............but doesn't!

What is stopping you from having a Down Under Watertribe race???

At one time Chief thought about taking Watertribe global. Contact him. I'll come if I can find a boat locally.

=======

I have more GoPro video and the award ceremony on my iPhone. It just takes me time to edit. No one wants to watch the back of my head for 10 minutes.

Watch the CapnChaos video. He has several shots of me during the race start taking all the video. Thanks...
