Wow that sucks. I never heard of that happening to anyone. With that said, looks like you were a victim to the Law of Chances. If they make 20,000 MDs, a few are bound to fail. I hope this is just a freak anomaly.

Ginzu,

Sorry to see that happen. I figure you had limited peddle power by using just the left peddle as moving that forward and back should have still moved both flippers. I hope you had your double paddle setup as well.

I'm headed down your way in June for a USAF squadron re-union in Fort Walton beach. I might have the wife talked into taking both Hobies and getting out in the bay for a little fishing. Were you on the bay side when you had the mishap?

We were in the gulf, off of Navarre beach. Maybe a mile out.

Yea I agree. That's the first time I've seen that happen.

Yeah, I entertained the idea of trying to push pull the one pedal, but it was awkward and not very effective. I was better off just paddling back. Good thing I always carry both my paddles when I go offshore.

I have actually seen the same thing, but only one other time. A good friend of mine that fishes the Boston, MA area is a big time biker and runner and if you ever fish with him you would quickly notice that he puts a great deal of stress on his drive. He has a "hole shot" almost like a powerboat!!

At any rate, it is still vary rare for that to happen, and will surely be covered by the warranty, just sorry you had to paddle back that whole way! Hope your turn around time is quick so you don't miss to much time on the water!
