It is supposed to be springer (salmon) fishing season here right now, but it seems like the run is late or way short of expectations. I decided that there just are not enough salmon in the river to make it worth my time so I decide to enjoy the day and C&R some sturgeon on the Willamette. It was a gorgeous day, sunny and warm, to just sit on anchor and haul in the dinos (nickname for sturgeon). Ended up with 3 keeper size and 5 shakers (under-sized) all released. The best ones were in the low to mid 40 inch range.
I definitely made the right call for the day. The salmon fishing looked tough as I did not talk to anyone who had caught one. Even the sea lions were not exactly tearing them up, although they did get a few.
Attached are a couple of pics of some of the nicer ones.
