Family and I just got back from Daytona...First time to race the Wave against other Waves....I had a Blast!!!.... Only hit the "A" mark 6 times out of the 8 roundings.....:D...dang current.....Great People and considering the Conditions the Race Comm. did a great job. Day one was called due to big Seas...like as in, "you can't see because the troughs were so Deep, sort of like sailing in Sand Dunes :D
My wife took these pics of me...glad she got the first take, I wouldn't want to repeat it to much :D. But the Wave did Really good in the Surf.

Fantastic shots -- thanks for posting! Great to see how well the Wave can handle the surf. How did you go coming back to shore through that?

Actually coming in wasn't as bad.....just keep the bows pointed down the wave line....you don't want to get sideways to the waves..coming or going.....and Just "Surf" it in.......In the Video, you can see where I caught a wave and Surfed most the way in.

Nice. For all sailboats, best accessory to have is wind and waves, eh?

Mark,

Great pics & video!
Thanks for sharing.

It looks like you & all of the other sailors had your hands full, with the wind and the surf conditions being what they were.
Nice job!

How many Waves were sailing in the fleet?
Also, how many in the other classes, if any?

Thanks in advance for your answers, and another shoutout for sharing your experience with us.

Happy Sailing,

Ron

I wish I could have made it over, I grew up in Daytona and still try and get back there to visit family once or twice a year. Looks like you all had your hands full!

Your pictures remind me of the Midwinters East at Saint Augustine Beach, 1983.

Hi Ron,
There was 11 Waves Registered and I think 19 Hobie 16's and a few 18's and 17 's.

Mark,

WONDERFUL job on posting the photos. Kudos to top notch photographer Tammy for the super shots.

It was great to meet you and the family!

How far will you drive to race the Wave?

Syracuse, NY has an excellent regatta in May. Fleet 204 would love for you guys to come!

Mimi

Oh...Mimi, May is usually busy for us because we move the big boat to Pensacola Fl....but New York is not to far for us to drive :D....Just don't know about May.

We had some really great photographers there. They just keep sending more good stuff.

Have you recovered yet Mark?
