My girlfriend and I picked up a "barn" find today. It is a 1979 yellow Hobie 16 with Cat Fever sails and a good trailer. The hull are toast but the sails are incredible. The mast is straight as an arrow and the 6:1 main sheet system looks brand new. :D
The launch permit on the boat is 23 years old....

I will take the hulls to the dump before my daughter gets home and finds a third 16 in the yard next to my 21SE.
She thinks I have "issues" with too many sailboats.

How many is too many?

We have four 16's sitting at the cabin. 3 are operational one was left sheeted up on a dock and took a nasty spill into some piling. Hulls and frame are shot but it's a great parts boat. 4 sets of sails, 2 are good, 1 fair, and one pretty shot.

I'd say you are just fine, because if I didn't that would mean I went overboard.

Zach,
I found this one in Wild Cat country, Taylorsville Kentucky. :o

The sails only where well worth the fuel and time it took to pick up the boat and trailer. The sails have some small repairs done to them with sail tape that I will have a sail loft do a more professional job on. But the overall condition and color of these 1979 factory sails is unbelievable. I will post pictures later. :D

Hey Zach, it's not specifically Hobie-related, but the Indianapolis Sailing Club will be hosting the "Old Oaken Rudder" regatta Sept 15-16, between the IU and Purdue sailing teams. I don't know if you're involved with the team, but I think there will be an alumni division also; in which case I'll be out there for the Boilers. If not racing, I'll be helping with hosting. Hope to see you there!

So, what are you planning to do with the 6:1 mainsheet?

:D
