Been fooling around with this. Haven't caught anything yet (mahi gone for a couple of months)but I think the rig has possibilities.

Find a pole ~14 feet long or slightly longer (Hobie Mast is OK except for toss manuver). I figured out the mast step hole at 7/8" =<2.75 " circum when cutting down bamboo stalk).

Put some eyelets in the top and at base of pole so it was about 3" above Hobie deck.. Ran a loop from top to bottom.

At the top tied off a short three foot stringer and attached a snap hook.

Optional hookup to Hobie drive at bottom.

Test insert mast on beach.

OK ready to go. Rig skip bait. At sea let out bait to desired tow length.

Pull snap hook down using cord loop.. Attach easily breakable rubber band to fish line (wrap twice) and hook loops with snap hook. Run up pole.

This gives you a much higher position of the line like an outrigger. If you hook up the base to the Hobie drive the line will get a 14-16" "jerk" every cycle.

When hooked up (I haven't been yet) I'm going to fight the fish with the pole there. If it becomes a hinderance, yank it out and toss it. It floats. Optional to just lay flat.

Believe this will also give a good indication of interference during fish fight by furled sail, and demasting requirement.
