Recently had the very good fortune of purchasing a very barely used 2010 PA and am loving it. My local dealer (a really great guy) has suggested that I would really like the steering upgrade. Thing is, I'd loose at least one rod holder position. Not a big deal, except for the fact that I use them all. See, the reason I got the PA was to help my wife by carrying her rods through the surf zone. Loosing 2 rods holder positions would not help us.

So far, I don't see a problem with the older style steering system. Maybe it's just because I haven't tried the newer system?

I wondered how many out there have tried both and decided to stick with the "retro" seat mount steering?

I have the old style. Decided not to upgrade because of the rod storage issue and because I'm perfectly happy with the design.

My PA is also a 2010 with the old steering. I have found it to be a good design and have had no problems with it.

The new system doesn't really change any of the actual steering geometry or parts - the rudder, hull and steering drum are the same. The boat will steer just the same as it did before.

I stuck with my 2010's system and prefer it over the newer one for several reasons. One of those is because it allowed me to rig a duplicate steering toggle on the other side of the seat. I can steer with either hand which has come in handy during fish fights.

Would you care to share how you did the duplicate steering toggle with pictures? sounds very interesting!

I posted that about a year ago. If you do a search under my name you should be able to turn it up.
