Hello,
I have an older 2007/8 Outback, and would like to add a hatch to the area in front of the seat, like the newer ones have.

Has anyone successfully done this or something like it? If so, how did you fill in the groves that are in that area to make them flat for a good seal on the hatch?

Thanks
Gus

I did it. Successfully.

Get yourself one of the Hobie 8-inch twist and stow hatches. Place the mounting ring in front of the seat area. It will only fit in one position and you'll know that one when you find it! Draw an outline on the inside of the mounting ring with a black sharpie marker.

I used a Stanley all-purpose hand saw and worked slowing and carefully. Then used a wood rasp to clean up any un-perfect areas. I mounted the hatching ring with GOOP and the provided screws. It doesn't leak - at all.

The GOOP filled in the small indentations where the water grooves are located. No big deal. Again, nothing leaks.

It's a nice addition. You'll love it.
