We purchased a Hobie 20 for lake sailing in Canada. This is a beautiful catamaran that we plan to have at the cottage. We do not have a sand beach and are going to design a shore storage system. Should the hulls just be on craddle points in the 4 corners or can we support the length of the hulls. Also would it matter is the hulls are angled towards the water re mast weight? Thank you for any advice you may have! Gord

Cradles at four points work. Under the cross members. Full length bunks would also work. The mast tipped aft is no problem. There is far greater load on the wires and fittings while sailing. We offer carpeted (trailer) cradles to fit these. Aft set tips, so you could mount on posts or a 4x4 beam structure at the waters edge. Slide the bows up on the aft set... and then pull forward.

I made a post in the Hobie 16 section, complete with pictures, regarding the ramp that we use in Shreveport: viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42851. It works great, and depending on your shoreline characteristics, it could probably be adapted to your needs.

It's hard to see on the picture, but I have a rocky beach and made some sliders, basically a ladder with ABS pipe rungs to slide on.


As the years go buy, there is less rocks, but that's more to help walking on even ground, the boat only slides on the sliders.

Thanks for your help guys. Great suggestions. The trailer is a full size trailer that has these cradles Matt. Nice ramps also. New to Hobie ownership, we feel very good about our H 20 purchase and this support forum, we will have more questions as we go!

Any suggestions as to the Serial numbers? Ends in 900 is that 99, 2000 model?

Yep. Built is late 1999 as a 2000 model year.

That's right, Andy. I've heard that you may damage your boat if you try to sail up on a ramp with your boards down. Do you know of anyone that tried to do it that way?

The only time not removing the mast pin is a problem is if you break a shroud and the mast comes down. The mast base will either rip the ball off the dolphin striker post or dent the hell out out of your front crossbar or both.

Under normal sailing conditions, leaving the pin in the mast base is not a problem. That is actually how the system was intended to be used.
