I have been an avid cat guy for a long time with a wave and an 18, but while down in Sanibel for 2 weeks (without a sailboat) I had to get out somehow. Well I rented the TI from Captiva Kayaks and just had some fun reaching back and forth off of Buck Key for an hour. Fun stuff and pretty well dialed. I didn't have quite enough wind to get a great feel for the boat, but they don't rent it in over 15 knots anyhow.

Loved: The mirage drive, comfy seating, roller furling sail, and the capacity
Liked: The tramps
Didn't like: not nearly as fast as I'm used to

However, it was great to get out on the water!

Now, for those who get out regularly, what speeds are attainable with decent wind conditions?

10mph is a normal top speed on a good day, 12-13mph on a great day. Sustainable speed is probably only 8mph, but being so close to the water, all speeds feel much faster than in a larger boat.

And, like a Swiss Army Knife, there are so many other sides to the Islands.

exactly :D ^ ^ ^

its very versatile, and personally it becomes less fun to me in anything over 15kts wind so don't feel too bad cuz you would have been fighting it more than enjoying it if the winds were over 15.

i had one of the most enjoyable days yet in my TI yesterday. winds were between 6-12 all day and i went and raced my parents in their big boat (40 ft). when we peddled hard we could gain on them but as soon as we stopped peddling we slowed down. they had 2 big sails to my 1 and i believe they said we were going about 7-8 at one point.

i got my wife to enjoy the surfing aspect of it yesterday. after a big boat goes zooming by us creating a big wake we would just turn away from it and start peddling to catch the wave. awesome times.
