I just noticed that my 2010 Wave has got a slightly loose upper starboard rudder pintle. This is the one with two screws. The screws seem difficult to turn in either direction. What would be the best way to tighten this up? What type of bonding agent is on these screws? I am thinking of using an impact screw driver - the type that you hit with a hammer.

Perhaps this is a waranty issue and better dealt with by the dealer?

If it is still in warranty, that is certainly what you should do.

If not, pay them to fix it. That way, they are responsible for a "proper" fix.

If you should want to proceed, spray lots of WD40 around all of the screws on BOTH hulls. Do that several times a day for a day or so.

Then, attempt to remove all of the screws by gently turning them, perhaps back and forth a little until they are loose enough to extract completely. Some of them ought to be loose enough on such a new boat.

Make sure you have a proper phillips screw driver with a blade that perfectly fits the screw head.

Do the "easy" ones first to build confidence. When you get to the hard ones, try hitting the head of the screw driver with a hammer whilst twisting the driver, back and forth to hopefully beak the screw loose without breaking it.

An impact driver will probably be even better, but again, the bit must fit the screw head perfectly, and you should have some experience using the tool.

Hopefully you won't break any of the screws.

This should be an annual maintenance on any Wave.
