I want to hey to everyone ,I ve only recently found this site.
My question is I was given a furler kit for my 16 .The thing is how do you adjust the downhaul on the jib now ? I assume the stay adjuster.but what hole of the forestay adjuster do I attach the jib too.
It seems the jib halyard should be tight.Any way I hope this makes sense.

In order to use the furler, you must have the roller-furling jib. It does not work with the stock jib.

The standard Jib works well with my Hobie Furler... I just took the battens out...
It flaps around a bit at the leach and i have made plans to cut it down but just haven't got around to it.
You don't use a halyard.. just attach it to the forestay ... nice and tight... but with enough slack to get some mast rake....
Here is a vid of last sundays fun...you can see it in action... you do lose a bit of performance but for me being able to power down quickly at the beach is a big plus....

i will post the different sail cut soon....

We obviously have a different definition of "work". "Flaps around a bit" = flog to death in my book. It's pretty much all you hear in the video. It's really bad for the sail and will significantly shorten its life.

An older sail would not stand up to that kind of abuse for any length of time.

When I bought my boat, the jib did not have battens. The previous owner sailed it that way and there was a small rip in the sail right above the clew plate from the flapping.

I got a loft to fix it and added battens.
