All - A storm wrecked a Hobie Wave that belongs to a friend of mine and subsequently gave me the entire boat. The main wreckage it: the upper mast broke off, the backrests broke off, some of the standing rigging was broken, the hulls were scraped up. The boat was thrown some 30 yards by 100+ mph winds.
I have a Prindle 16 and I am taking the Cheeta motor bracket and converting it to fit the p-16. As for the fate of the remainder of the Wave - is it worth it for me to fix it or should I part it out? I know I need at least the top part of the mast and new wires.

Id say its worth fixing for sure. Scrap the backrests, new rigging from salty dog, and try to score a used comp tip for the mast (did the mast tip break or the whole comp tip?)! Used waves are worth anywhere from 1800-4000 depending on year and condition. Bummer about the carnage! Glad your boat survived!

The mast broke right at the split.

It is rare that someone would only have the comp tip. It looks like the Bob is OK.

Even at full price with shipping you have a lot of room to spend for what you need.

In Jersey you probably have a good dealer nearby.

You will come out way ahead, and hopeful you will sail the boat and enjoy it.

agreed...your $$$ ahead big time even if you buy a new comp tip.
You got the boat for nothing. 8)
Toss a lil cash at it...sail it, let the kids sail it, and if you dont dig it sell it for a profit next summer. Wish my friends gave me free boats!

She's back from the dead. The kids will be sailing her in August and then she will be up for sale. (unless they convince me to keep) The comptip was easy to replace.

I have the bob but need to fix it up a little.
I'm not over concerned about flipping this little boat. I've righted my P-16 a few times with no issues.

They are easy to right....until they go all the way over turtled. Then they can be impossible. Thus the reason they come with a Bob. Good on ya for getting it going again! Kids should have a blast on it!
