I just shot you an email. As I said I was not intending to sell them. I just saw this post, and it's kind of an impulse thing. I would want $950 for them because I know I will never be able to replace them. I know that is probably an unreasonable amount. Put they are one of those things that would take an unreasonable offer to part with. Either way happy sails.

Aaron your not out of line with that price. Good on you, for offering to sell part of your boat to someone who may want them more then you. 8)

Did that price include the mounting kit?
(Slugs, studs, butterfly anchors, rivets, rivet sleeves etc)

Even without the kit, the buyer got a very good deal,
considering tramps alone run around $532 a pair.

Seriously??? That's outrageous. I can understand Hobie trying to make a buck but that is ridiculous.

Relax Brian, remember that when a part has a long production run, and inventory 'moves' with regularity, prices will reflect this....

On the other hand, for low volume items...go figure the math.

There are likely no more than 3,000 sets of wings in continental North
America....and with Hobie quality, those wing tramps could last 20 years....

I am currently dickering with two H18 sailors re my 'spare' set of SX wings....complete with tramps, mounting kits etc. No, I won't make money, as I paid at CAD$1.32 to the US$....such is life.

Yeah, John, I know all about it, yet there are other manufacturers out there selling into the same low-volume market who manage to sell them for 1/2 that price. There's no denying the quality of Hobie's heat-welded tramps. I have one on my boat. But I stand by my statement. If we were talking about some "exotic" extrusion here that would be one thing but we're not. We're talking about $532 wing seat covers made from the same machines they use to make their other trampolines. It's outrageous.

What is outrageous is the results of last night's club racing....
DFL again, this time because a $1 piece of line snapped....
the cord that 'sets' the jib halyard tension must have worn out after last Sunday's epic 26 nm long distance race (12 knots SW, gusting to 20),
and while I jury rigged a repair on the water, it's tough to beat upwind with a floppy jib...

at least, that's my excuse.

Perhaps, but you have to consider that a pair of wing tramps uses roughly the same amount of mesh fabric as the "regular" tramp. There are also roughly the same number of grommets and they are hand machine sewn, so probably equal or greater labor than the regular tramp (largely what you're paying for is labor and the Hobie brand, materials are the least significant contributor to the cost of a tramp). I'd argue that Hobie's price is pretty well in line with what they charge for a regular tramp (which, as we all know, they charge top dollar for).

Also, the wing tramps are not heat welded, so the Hobie wing tramps don't have that going for them. It's an items that I would definitely consider buying aftermarket.

Ah, you're correct. The main body (trim) of the wings is stitched together though. In any case, it is roughly the same material and labor as the main tramp, so I don't think the pricing is out of line from those products.
