Let me start off by apologizing if this is a stupid question.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the jibs on H14, 16, or 18 compared to the hobie 17? I am asking because I am wondering if I must buy a hobie 17 conversion kit or if I can get away by using something else, for instance a hobie 14 jib roller furler kit.

I understand that the conversion kit would also give me a boomlet, but right now having a jib is a higher priority. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

A critical component of the 17 kit is the bow compression spreader, which allows the bridle to be lowered to a reasonable height without breaking the bows off. You cannot install a jib without this component. (Well, you can, but you'd break your boat.)

You can see it between the roller-furling drum and the bows in the photo below:

Murray's Marine also sold a jib kit fo the H17. I just happen to have one that I don't use. Includes the spreader, furler, forstay, jib (reacher), blocks and sheet. if you are interested [email protected] for details.
