Regarding the "stink" of Vibram FiveFingers. The KSO's are great for the boat. Very breathable fabric, not that thick, and a thinner sole. They also make the FLOW, which is neoprene, a bit warmer for cool water, and with a slightly different sole material.

You can wash them easily. So stink shouldn't be an issue if you have dedicated sailing shoes.

Thanks for all the great input! I'm checking out the options. I'm currently leaning toward the TopSider Bungee but we'll see.

Hey, where do you sail? I grew up sailling and windsurfing all around that area between Swansboro, EI, Atlantic Beach & Morehead. Kept my H18 on the beach just south of the EI pier many summers. Fantastic sailing. I really miss it.

Yeah, I love that Vibrams are machine washable!

I have been using the New Balance Minumus MT trail shoe, it holds the sand a little but works great for traction, protection, it's lighweight etc. It also drys pretty quickly and doesn't smell.

New Balance desc:
-Synthetic mesh upper provides lightweight comfort and support.
-Designed to be worn with or without socks.
-Anti-microbial treatment resists odors.
-Deconstructed ACTEVA® midsole provides great flexibility and featherweight cushioning.
-Minimal Vibram® outsole for lightweight traction and durability.

For cat sailing, I like a fairly stiff sole with an indentation under the arch. Currently using these for cat and trap dinghy sailing:

I've never found the ideal shoe.

Launching form 11th Street public access downtown Morehead City. Went out yesterday, 23kts wind with the gennaker on the H16, what a blast, only pitch poled once, not bad for a couple a 50 year old. Still beat the H18 with the college kids onboard, its good for the mid life ego's.

The ones I liked the most are SON-R Feedback Bungees.

I picked up a pair of Sperry Son-R Bungees and tried them out last week while sailling at the coast. I'm very happy with them and they are super comfortable. These are a really good choice. Thanks for the tip Tom and thanks to everyone for the great input.

Nice - I was down in Wilmington going between no wind and thunderstorms. Sounds like I picked the wrong spot! I've see a bunch of cats at 11th street do people keep their boats set up there?

Walmart sells the Ocean Pacific water shoes with a rubber sole for less than $10.00 a pair.

Picked up those OPs a few days before you posted at Dicks, about 11 bucks on sale.

West Marine water shoes. Likely not the best, but they're perfectly adequate.

FiveFingers sound like a great idea!
