After considering sanding and rhinolining my trailer as part of an overhaul, I thought "Why not do the same thing with my boat?"

Can anyone think of a good reason _not_ to put a smooth finish protection from Line-X (http://www.line-x.com) or Rhino Liner (http://www.rhinoliner.com) on my 1979 Hobie 16?

I've been trying to think of ways to protect the bottom of my hulls from the many rocks and the beginning sailors I often take out. I don't race my boat, its just for fun. I don't imagine the cost of this protection would be much more than the cost to fill in chips and buff the existing gelcoat. I'd never have to worry about dings or fading, and cleaning would be a simple.

I don't have time to do the chip repair and painting myself, and I've only been able to find one boat place to do the repair and their estimate is over $400.

Thanks,

We did this on jet skis we rent........I will never do it again. They were so hard to move around. When the boat hits the beach you will come to a 100% stop immediately. The only downside is it will be harder to move around on the beach, then again maybe this was only the case with our ski's

Thanks,

I painted my hobie black. BIG MISTAKE. It warped the hulls like no other so black in not a good color for rinho liner either i would suppose. I would suggest metal runners along the bottom smooth and sturdy.
