Here is a solution to the notorious hanging and catching of the jib sheet on the cleats at the base of the mast. 3 hours sailing yesterday and not a single hang. About a dollar's worth of fabric and some velcro and problem solved!

It doesn't look like there is any degradation when I view it in HD which is suprising considering I only paid about 10$ for it. I messed up :x when I mounted it though and had to remount it to get rid of the vignette on the top corners. I remounted it with a hot glue gun centered this time so I'll see how it is today when I go out.

Was curious so I did some calculations this morning regarding speed of the wave based on distance traveled taken from a topo map and the time covering that distance based on the video. From the point where I tacked, only maybe 100 yards from the east shore (completion of the tack when the boat started moving) to the end of the video (maybe 300 yards from the west shore), is a little more than .6 miles. According to my calculations I covered that distance at around 16.6 mph or about 14.4 knots. That's pretty incredible for a boat many people consider a "toy"! I know this wasn't an exact science (not being able to measure to the foot) and a gps would be much better. I even started the calculations of time well before the boat came up to top speed. Just thought it was interesting. That's all. My wife did the algebra as I'm not smart enough for that stuff! :(

Thanks

1st generation kodak playsport HD w/ fisheye lens attached. Lens was around $15.00(including shipping) and recorded in 720P. 1080P i've found uses too much memory as I only have a 16 gig card. Waterproof to 3 meters and you can get them for less than $100 now new.

Great video!!! A couple of questions:
-Do you have dimensions for the sock at the base of the mast?
-It appears from the video that each jib sheet is run thru a block that is about a foot aft of the mast and then run to the cam cleat. I am not familiar with this setup. Is it more efficient? Can you provide details?

Thanks -

Thanks Mitch.

Dimensions are 17"x15.5" for the sock and I guarantee you will never have to go to the front of the tramp for a hang! It works.
The jib sheets run thru blocks attached to swivels, then clipped to a cable (w/stops) tensioned with a small turnbuckle that runs from one tramp hook to the other side. I found the jib will luff really bad when pointing if I cleat the jib off where Hobie recommends. Not very efficient. The way I have it allows me to just unclip it and move to another location to open the slot. Though, I must admit, I never have and would never even sail without the jib. I just finished the new jib today (picture attached) as the yellow one was just a prototype I made for about 15$ of ripstop nylon. Blew out quick. New one is dacron. I know the luff is 150" and the foot is 50". Can't remember the leach. Going to be exponentially more powerful in the 15-30's I normally play in. Finished installing the new low profile Harken ratchet blocks (designed for the Wave), 22mm Harken MS traveler, posts to lace the back of the tramp (classic), shortened the shrouds w/longer forestay for maximum rake and block to block on the main. Just gotta finish tightening the tramp tomorrow and she's ready to go.

I want to go so bad I'm totally freaking out! It's been blowing for weeks here and now it's supposed to be dead air for a week. Figures! Water's brutally cold right now. I think I saw Lake Champlain was in the upper 30's. My suit is only rated to 50. :(
