Trying to find a main sail replacement without paying for a brand new main sail. I don't mind if the jib & main sail don't match...I'm still sailing. I have a block or one unit blown out between battens. Not sure if I should take it somewhere to have them sew in some new material to patch the hole or if I should look elsewhere to find a used main sail for purchase? And where to look? Thanks!

Steve

I know you said you did not want to pay new, but I found this the other night.

http://www.slosailandcanvas.com/servlet ... Set/Detail

Scroll down and you will find a simulator to see what your custom patterns would look like. I had a blast making tons of different combinations, and some old ones too, like the "Spirit of 76" which I love. I wish I could design some for Hobie. I think I came up with some pretty cool designs. I will order a set when I have the cash - $1200-$1500, but totally custom.

Otherwise, take your chances on SearchTempest.com or Ebay.

If others have good leads, please post.

Mariner Sails, the Dallas Hobie dealer, has a couple of used sets of Hobie sails. One is a Carumba pattern, the other is solid white. They have their own loft and can recondition anything they sell you in-house. Contact them at http://www.mariner-sails.com/. Tell them that Mark Van Doren sent you their way.

Pay a few dollars extra and go with original Hobie sails. They're the best quality and you'll be glad you did.

I agree, I just wish Hobie would remake older sail patterns for those of us that are nostalgic and need to replace aging Dacron.

For a few dollars more, you can have Hobie build a custom sail. Their palette contains more colors than the ones you see on their standard Sea Breeze and Hot Tamale sails. You won't have all the colors to put a Tequilla Sunrise together, but there's plenty of colors available for you to get pretty creative. Coordinate through a dealer. Mariner Sails in Dallas, http://www.mariner-sails.com, worked with me to order a killer custom sail from Hobie for my Hobie 20.

Pretty cool... I really wish the racers would sell off their old sails... I'm rocking originals on my boat. I'd love to get something with a little more go power!
