Needing to replace my old and weathered main halyard for my H16's comptip mast. What's the difference between the halyard for a comptip mast vs a non-comptip mast? Can the non-comptip version be easily adapted for comptip use? Old to sailing but new to H16. All wisdom here is appreciated!

Hi...

You'll want to replace it with a halyard for a comptip mast. The reason being that the swage that catches in the hook at the top of the mast is located in a different spot which will affect how high up the mast your sail goes.

I just saw one on ebay here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hobie-Cat-14-16-Main-Halyard-Comptip-Mast-/271030941106?pt=Boat_Parts_Accessories_Gear&hash=item3f1ab3f5b2&vxp=mtr

Just so they don't mix them up on you...the halyard for the all aluminum mast is mostly wire. For the comp tip it is mostly rope.
