The Torqeedo Ultra Light Kayak Motor model 403 looks like a good package or most kayaks.

1. Does anyone have any experience with one?

2. Can the connecting ball which is attached to the kayak, be ordered separately, and what is the diameter/size of the plate which attacheds to the kayak, and holds the connecting ball to attach the motor to.

With separate connecting balls attached to my Freedom Hawks and whatever Hobie Mirage Kayak, I end up with, seems to be a great product which can be moved from yak to yak with minimal effort if I can buy extra connecting balls and install them on my yaks.

The link below shows the Torqeedo Ultra Light and what appears to be a Revo 13:

It should be powerful enough to get a Revo 11 to and back to most of fishing sites or with my Freedom Hawk Pathfinder without hasseling with heavy batteries or motors. The 15 # total weight for the Lithium Battery and motor appears to be what the doctor has ordered.

I would appreciate any feedback on the Torqeedo Ultra Light Model 403.

Thanks

Dave

Wow, that's a neat little motor!
The second video link you posted really drove home the point.

That would be 403 not 203. The second video is a 402 which the 403 has replaced.

I'm pretty sure the ball mount can be purchased separately from a Torqeedo dealer. There are four bolts on the motor half of the mount that you would have to use to remove/install it on another boat. There is only one bolt that pinches the main mounting tube into the motor half of the mount, so I guess if you bought both halves, you could switch by just loosening that one bolt though twisting the tube in and out may be more trouble than it would be worth.

This may not be an attractive option for a non "Island" boat, but look near the bottom of page 1 of the following post and you can see how I mounted mine. Just one pull pin and it can be removed. One could make a like mount for as many boats as he wished and switch them at will only using that one pin.

I recently bought the Hobie Evolve v2 kit which included the Ultralight 403 motor with the proprietary Hobie mounting hardware. I mounted it to the twist and stow mount on my Revolution 11.

The moment I hit the water with it for the first time all the second guessing about the cost to value disappeared. I've used it four times so far and haven't had a single regret. I've compared it to my friend's Bass Yak Torqeedo kit (like the one in the youtube mounted to a Santa Cruz Raptor) and the proprietary Hobie mount is worth the extra $.

On flat bay waters I've hit 6mph but 5.2mph is usually what I get with a mild current and 6~8mph winds. In swells or very choppy situations you'll need to dial the power down to around 50% to stay stable. I speculate if it was in the mirage drive position (where it has a deeper position) I could maintain full speed in those conditions.

If there's any negative to the solution it's that replacement parts are very expensive. For instance to replace the cables if they get cut or go bad it will cost roughly $100 and the rotor blade costs about $100 also.

Here are some photos of my installation:

Thanks for the info.

Sounds like a great addon for your Revo 11.

I had a wierd computer event when I tried to view your 3rd photo. I got a popup from my old sbcglobal.net site asking for my log on stuff. I avoid that service like the black plague.

The first two photos came up perfect.

Thanks again.

Dave
