Only V2 are sold now - you can get one and it will work with your motor - you just get a plug adapter, easy.

Understand that the V2's have a longer range. With the new V2 battery, will this give the V1 systems longer range?

Okay , So I buy a V2 battery and and adaptor plug but will the V1 battery charger charge the V2 battery or do I need a whole new charger or another adaptor? This poses lot of questions, like the solar charger panel can then be used to run the V1 motor? I don't see the adaptor listed in the fall Hobie catalog what is the part number?

The adapter would allow your new V2 battery to work with your current system (including charger)
No further parts to buy

The Solar panel could only be used with the V2 battery - you couldn't use it with your old battery still (so nothing changes there really)

As well, if you have a V1 battery - you should contact Torqeedo - you'll receive a new replacement for that one - there is a service bulletin out - here's a link:

Thanks for the link, I applied for the replacement they received the request, but I haven't heard from them, as to how the exchange takes place.

Just an update Torqueedo got back to me today they sent a UPS shipping label and instructions for the exchange process, they will also include an adaptor and a new AC charger. Thanks again for the heads up on this exchange program!

So, If I understand correctly we will get a V2 battery to replace the recalled V1 battery? Then the V2 battery comes with an adapter to work with all your V1 stuff plus a new charger? If so that is one sweet deal.

I have a V1 eVolve from mid 2010 and it is pretty impressive technology. Great to see the warranty is also equally impressive. Processed my claim and now await a reply

Update on this post, I received my replacement battery from Torqueedo today as part of their exchange program. The battery is an Ultralight 403 which is 320 Wh. Along with this battery they sent and adapter to connect this 403 battery to my V1 Evolve drive also known to Torqueedo as a 402 motor. This ten inch long adaptor their item # 036-00164 and is available from them if anybody needs a spare. They also sent a charger for this 403 battery, their item 1127-00. The old 402 battery that originally came with the Evolve V1 motor system had only two ports: one to charge and also to connect to the motor and the second to connect to the throttle. The new 403 unltralight battery has three ports: one to connect to the motor, second for the throttle and the third is for charging. Now here is the important part, when I questioned Torqueedo if this battery can be charged with Hobie's Solar Panel , the answer was yes.

Here is another update. I went ahead and purchased the Hobie 23W solar panel to charge the replacement Ultralght 403 battery. I went ahead and made a mounting bracket for it on the bow of my 2011 Hobie Outback to look at video see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FXyd3ajd7w

Yup. I got my new replacement battery in just a few days. The greater capacity is nice as I used it just the other day and was impressed with the extra run time. The important feature as Lameduck points out is the separate 12 volt charging port. You can connect a charging unit while having the motor cable and controller cable connected.

A solar panel connected is only one aspect. If a 12volt solar panel will charge battery and run motor I wonder if a connection to 12volt car battery by cigaret lighter would also charge the battery? Maybe even put together a small 12volt power source like the 12 volt gel batteries found in a PCs UPS as auxiliary power.

12volt 4amp DC charger is what is used at the charging port. Sure does open a world of interesting options for powering/charging your Evolve unit.
