I am relatively new to the mirage drive. The stablizing bar(?) that runs down one of turbo fins has become exposed...about an inch. the other side seems to be attempting to push through. I might have damaged then in a couple of different circumstances but don't remember anything drastic.

Have any of you experienced this?
Should I expect the tear to get worse with use?
It appears the fins can be replaced?

any thoughts are appreciated..

That is from hitting the bottom. You can repair and they are replaceable. There are topics in the forums about fin repairs.

Here is one:

After you fix or replace the damaged fins, you might want to cover the area with some tape. It will help prevent damage in the future when hitting rocks, sand bars, etc. I use 3M clear duct tape and it's been on for almost a year.

Use Marine Goop to repair the holes/tears. Then cover with Gorilla tape. Actually, I keep Gorilla tape on my fins at all times.

2X on the Gorilla tape. Works really well. I have had tape for year now and I might go ahead this winter and take it off and clean the area and then reaply new tape.

Good Luck

I was thinking of Possibly some sort sheet metal riveted to protect the fin to keep the mast from exposing.

Thanks Thinwater skinner, I think I figured out what you and the others are doing. Pics would be nice to confirm. I wonder if flex seal in a can would help with this as well?

Thanks again

I have not used flex seal in a can so I do not know for sure. Try it and let us know how it worked.
