So before I proceed with the next step, I would like to know if being 225 lbs is going to ruin any chance of me getting the most out of my Hobie14. It has been in dry storage for about 14 years and I recently purchased it from the original owner. Ive wanted one for a very long time, but as I read the various posts, and assembly, tuning, and operation manuals, they make me wonder if Ive made a mistake. Any thoughts....???

You'll be fine for just playing around, but you're definitely on the "too heavy" side for racing.

You won't really be able to take anyone with you - the boat will be a submarine at that point.

I weigh 185 and I take the 14 out all the time (just playing around) with no problems at all. My girlfriend weighs 130 and the 14 handles the two of us just fine. However, I tried taking her brother out with me once, he is around your weight, 230 ish. and with just me an him on the boat it was practically a submarine. both hulls were under the water just barely.
Hope that helps.

I had some fun on my old 14 at 220 +/-. I do like my new to me 16 better though as I can take my gal out with me! Sail it!

Strongly recommend going for the 16.

The 14 will handle the weight... well.. it will float... but performance will be hoorible, takcing a nightmare, and more or less like driving a car with 4 flat tires.

Step up to the 16 and because it's not overloaded, will sail much better (less frustrating) and therefore a lot more fun... AND you can single hand the 16, bring a friend... or even bring 2.

Most fun on a 14 is maybe up 170-180 pounds, but sure, someone heavier can sail it.. I've had 250 onboard, and had fun, but a 16 is better suited.
