Didn't Mark Twain say something like, "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco"? You'd be thinking he was hitting the Absinthe too hard if your only reference of the bay was the last 2 days. It is sunny, and for San Francisco it's hot.

Race 3 in 17- 20 kts. Course 1.
Ebb chop developed, had a few boats over.
I'll just use the first letter of the last names of the finishers because you've seen it all before:

Adam B, Johnny O, Mark S, all wel-known div3ers, are volunteering to help out today (Along with a few others). These guys are always there to support our local regattas!! Thanks guys! They are headed to the yacht club to receive their due rewards for a hard day on the water! There are about 10 other people that the yacht club supplied. The resources of this club are phenomenal! It is so nice to have an excess of people.
If you notice in your division there are probably a handful of people that, "take one for the team" to get regattas together. If you haven't volunteered for crash boat, RC, jumper, organizer for a while, I encourage you to do it. You'll learn a lot about racing, it's usually pretty fun, and it really helps your Div/ Fleet out a ton!

Time for some Johnny drinks and all-you-can-eat Nepalese food up around the corner!

Well, after a **gasp** no wind delay, we were off today in what turned out to be an awesome day on the water.

The "Sucker" showed up at about 1:30 PM and the last race was held in 20+ mph winds.

Phil Collins was the star of the day (after falling off the boat at the start in the first race). He reeled in 2 bullets in the last two races. I was leading the last race going in to A mark the first time, but the halyard hook broke and it's tough to go upwind with the sail falling down.

The currents are really weird - most of today's races were held in flood / slack tide which makes it really interesting to figure out which side is favored.

What a fabulous day on the water! Tomorrow promises more of the same. Gotta do some repair work in the morning, though.

Is that Rick Pettit fro Texas. If so tell him Doug Snell said way t go.

Race 2 was held in beautiful conditions! The wind is 9-12 at A mark and 13-15 at the committee. There is some small tidal chop developing. Did I mention it is about 70 degerees and sunny! The wind is swirling around the head at Fort Point so it kind of bends along the slightly more than 1 mile course. At A the wind is coming from 240. Mooneyham flipped at A-mark. There's his throw-out.

Collins, Bounds and sail# 13 (not sure who that is we don't have a competitor list on the crash boat today).
Race 3 has started, it's a course 2.

It was great to hang out with Mooneyham (and eveyone else) at the yacht club the other night. He told us some great stories about Greg Thomas "crewing" for him in Mexico a few years ago. Every sailors got a story from Mexio!!!

The 17's are very colorful against the cityfront, but it sure would be nice to have some other classes of boats up here to photograph! It's perfect conditions for, say, something with a spinnaker. Wish I had the FX-one.

Well races are over for today. I don' t know who finished where. The chase boat was busy towing in a boat. WM lost a boom pin as he flipped. After several attempts to jury rig, he was towed in.

Wind 15-20 from 240 almost all day. Mass Ebb chop developed on the outside of the course and took some boats out!! Epic weather! And, as John Bauldry put it, the conditions are definitely "sporty" in the deep water channel.

Well, another Chamber of Commerce day out on the water!

The first race was run in 10-15 kts with a wicked flood tide. After the start, we hit the shore and short tacked up to A out of the current. Two laps around and I was able to hold off Steve Acquart and Dave Wilder for the bullet.

Race 2 - Phil Collins and I hooked up with a ship's wake and surfed them halfway down the first downwind leg to put half a leg on the rest of the fleet. The wind was building - now about 15. Phil was untouchable upwind and built up enough of a lead that I couldn't catch him downwind.

Race 3 - The first time we had a three lap race. Phil Collins jumped out to an early lead, followed by myself and Steve Acquart. Wind was up in the high teens as we traded places - Phil and I were motoring up wind; Steve was hot downwind. After nearly an hour of racing, I beat Steve out by less than a boatlength.

The highlight of the day was when Gordo Bagley port-tacked the entire fleet at the start of Race 2!

PS - all the Tiger guys? You blew it by not going this week. The weather has been fabulous and the conditions have not been extreme.
