Winter Modifications-Adventure Island is on dry dock in my garage. This is my second AI so I made a promise to my self no drilling for the first year so I can spend some time thinking about the project. I have to admit Hobie did a great job and there is not much that needs adjustment on the rigging.

So here is the list
1. FishFInder Mounting with multiple options, left and/or right of cockpit

Here is a picture of the wiring thru hull in the pocket

2. RailBlaza Track System install before rear hatch

The RailBlaza System is excellent. It gives you multiple options and the ability to re-purpose the accessories in any of the Starport mounts. I even have a Starport mount in my truck for any of the accessories. I use Mobi Mount for my phone on the dashboard.

3. Yak Attack Gear Tracks front and rear
Image

4. Front Hatch Project to add Railblaza, ram ball and clam cleat by yak-gear.com
Image

5. Front Deck Lines - Safety, to hold onto incase I am in the water with the boat

6. Replace main sheet for sail, with some nice braided line from West Marine

7. Yak-Gear Dive Reel Anchor System

8. New Capts Chair

More tocome

You're doing quite a job on your AI, Al. I put most of my gear on a haka in August when I rigged mine as I wanted to fish it for a while before drilling holes in the boat. I will post a picture in the next day or 2 showing what i did. I bought 2 aka mounts from railblaza for rods etc but have not mounted them yet. I will put them on as well as an anchor trolley and drill a hole for my fishfinder wire. (I'm just snaking it out of the forward hatch at he moment.

haka's are the next project. I've been rigging yaks for a long time, so I waited a year before drilling LOL.

I use the AI not just for sailing the Hobie Sails, but I also have a few others I play around with: Kayak Sailor System, Falcon Sail and Pacific Action Sail. So I rigged the boat for any and all options

I look forward to seeing your pictures.

I love the RailBlaza System. I have 4 starport mounts on the akas. I am going to try and use them to secure the Haka's when the time comes.

Can you post some info about your Captain chair that you're gonna install ?
I've been thinking of doing something about getting my butt out of cold water.
Thanks

Salty Dawg about the Capts Chair

I am looking forward to getting the seat, its back ordered so I plan to install once I get it. I am not sure how I will mount it. Whatever I do it will be easy to take in and out depending on what I am doing that day.

It's like the fear of getting a tattoo. After the first one, it's hard to stop.

We thought about that, but the geometry is more trouble than it's worth. Bungies or straps are ideal and allow the Haka to slide when you want.

The Starports on the Akas have proved to be much more useful for camera booms and paddle/rod/beer holders.

here are a couple of pics of the haka i use for fishing when I was rigging the boat in August. I have since mounted 2 ram balls forward of the downrigger, 1 for the plotter and another for the antenna. Common lore for trolling with downriggers off the yak says no more than 4 or 5 lb balls but Ive found that if you have at least 6 or 7 kts of wind, you can use a 10 lb ball. i was out yesterday trying for spring salmon, fishing at 120 ft down.
note the local boat inspector--he's vain but he works for peanuts.

I started to ask how you mounted the bird to the Ama.

Tom--I told him if he laid a deposit on the Ama, I'd stuff him and make a bowsprit out of him.

Awesome Picts.

Now if you could just train a salt water tern or sea lion to spot bait schools for you.

I don't know, Nohuhu--sea lions give me the willies. After watching a huge bull explode out of the water with my 20 lb salmon in his mouth last summer (Full disclosure--I was in my power boat at the time) I keep flashing to that when I am boating a salmon in my AI and thinking a 1000 lb sea lion landing in my lap would ruin my day!
BTW--Thank you for the whole haka idea--you can see from the pics that I have my downrigger mounted on the haka--it takes all the strain of a downrigger off of the hull of the yak and enables me to push the envelope re how much weight i can hang off the rigger and correspondingly, how deep I can fish.

That's a really good point T2. The downrigger idea, I mean.

I was waiting for someone to do this. There's no end to the hardware goodies you can strap on the Hakas.

Perhaps a good idea to tether the Akas in this situation. Easy to collapse them with a big strike, kelp snag or a hungry sea lion. ;-)

Hakas are not a cure for collapses. Trust me on this. They just slow them down a bit.
