Tony,
That is very odd. I've just rung that 1300 number (on the brochure) again and she confirmed the original price quoted to me. I checked and the 2m length is $98+gst so similar cost/m.
She also said that mine was the only enquiry she'd had today.
What number were you ringing? :?

I rang 8787 7400 and they put me through. Weird eh?

CC,
Thanks for the splinter fix. 8)
My woodworking skills are very limited though and you're probably not going to like this but I hate working with wood! Give me metal anyday (that's what Chrisj was referring to with his comment.)
If I do go ahead with the marine ply haka then the risk of splinters would be something the users will just have to put up with!

If you want something other than wood try Landrover Sand Ladders ready made

In Plastic or Ali

Better still connect the stainless steel rivets in the haka to the stainless steel rivets in the Aka. Then the galvanic corrossion in the haka will cancel out the galvanic corrosion in the aka. I'm a Chemist, I know these things.

So the haka can double as a giant sacrificial anode for the akas. Is there no end to the uses for these things?

The sun came out and it gave us the chance for a trial fitting of the HAKAS before the rubber strips underneath and a final couple of coats of Epifanes.

I have bungeed them on with adjustable bungees and use the tramp bungees for rolling up the tramps to give an extra fixing at the front.

Image

Then we needed a bit of load testing to prove the cantilever works. Cue Mrs CC

I then had a look at the spray skirts and added the harken fittings, tied tied round the aka they seem to work fine. I didnt have the right bolts for the cleats so they will have to wait for another day.

Image

Finally, I adapted the end of the spinlock adjustable tiller arm to fit the ram mount onto it. It needed drilling out, a bit of epoxy and a bolt. Here is what you get

and here is the adapted end

All we need is a nice day to take her out on the water now.

Chopcat you are a craftsman! Well done......going to build a 2x4 haka soon

Realized the other day that my 11ft ocean kayak scrambler fits perfectly under the aka bars of my AI with my weight in the AI.....this could be a great way to both add a passenger and add serious extra float to the AI

You would have to add noodles to the aka bars and lash the second yak under them with the second yak right nest to the island hull for three point of contact to take the pressure off the aka bars

It would have to be tested could cause some steering/sailing/safety etc problems but honestly after thinkin about i really think it would work.....if the akas can handle a bench on top with a person on the i beleive the load of a kayak underneith wouldnt be a problem

Really wish i got a pic when i did it and i will maybe tmrw if we go out.....picture the island with a 11ft yak under the akas with the cockpit of the second yak centered between the haka bars

Brilliant, CC. Nice photos too. Thanks so much.

I see you her railblazed, as well.

We are looking forward to you getting her out of drydock.

At NOHUHU'S request, here's a better picture of my "Expedition Style" Hakas fully loaded with all the camping gear and food etc. for my recent, one week camping trip on an island in the Inter Coastal Waterway of South Florida.
viewtopic.php?f=122&t=46287

I didn't weigh all the gear beforehand, but if I had to guess each bench probably had 150-175 lbs. and they held up fine. The contents of my duffel bags stayed much drier than when I made this trip last year with them on the trampolines.
Image

I built mine out of cedar, with 1x1/8" aluminium angle underneath for support.

I have since added seats -

which I folded back for the trip out to the island. That aspect came in handy, as they acted as a support brace for the rear duffel bags as seen in the top picture.

Thanks again NOHUHU for introducing the Hakas to the rest of us!

Looks good!
But I have to ask:
How much gear do you need for a week?
Are you moving house?

He coulda stayed a month though,..

I like that the TI and Hakas were loaded for bear. When the 'bergs melt and the water rises everywhere, SunE has it all figured out.

Was that a Haka bed in the tent by chance? Could easily be.

Went out for the first sail in the Ti on Saurday.

3 degrees Celcius and a 18-30kt northerly. Great conditions for first timers.

Hopefully the youtube will work as they banged on about the music choice. (if not i will get the ukelele out !)

We had a water filled ama when we got back but other than that it all went well. The hakas are sturdy, you can hike out easily on the cantilever section.

Great to hear you had a successful maiden outing. I presume you left the bung out on the ama!

I must have read this thread in its entirety 10 times or more on my quest for the perfect hakas for my application. I have made my initial cuts but this picture is still of a the rough cuts. I plan to do more work today, but wanted to show what I had done so far. These hakas are a mighty 8'x16" wide.

I'm built for pleasure not speed.
Not a Haka bed, it's my new folding aluminium cot from Roll-A Cot. Very light and strong. I would highly recommend it to anyone camping out for more than just a couple of days. It made all the difference in getting a good night's rest for me. http://www.camptime.net/roll-a-cot.htm

As far as staying out for a whole month though? I'm not too sure Laura would go for that. At one week, I was pushing the matrimonial envelope .

and unfortunately, the icebergs are melting  .
