I'm not officially IN the club yet, but I'm going to buy a Mirage kayak in the next couple months when my book advance arrives. :D
I am wondering if anyone has any ideas for how to modify the rudder control? My arms are short and weak because of my disability, and if the control could be modified to somehow be manipulated in my lap, that would be ideal.

I know there's a way to make this work, but I haven't had the chance to tinker yet. Thought someone might have an idea.

Thanks!!!

Sarah

That shouldn't be a problem, the 2011 models and more recent yaks have that optional knob which screws in to make for a perfect attachment point .

I am always tinkering and have made a bimini top, a sail and a standing platform for my Outback so i will take a look to see what i can come up with in regards to your situation.

I'm sure others will as well.

When i read that you had a quirky sense of humor i knew i had to try and help, people think my humor is off the wall but you just have to find the right people who have that odd type of humor .

Take care and good luck

Welcome Sarah,
If you search for 'tiller' or 'tiller extension' in the kayak/island forums you will come across lots of ideas. :)
Try these for starters:

That one would be perfect if I could attach some kind of strap to each handle. My hands are sort of "hooked," so I could hook my hands in the straps and pull toward me whichever handle I want to move.

Good stuff Stringy, i was not thinking along those lines , i was thinking of just a simple extension without any modifications but what you posted sounds perfect and should work well for her.
