These are nothing new to Hobie. You can get them for your H16, to prevent pitchpoles.

That 'nose cone' looked more like a steering ski from a snow-mobile the way it was 'surfing' along. Anyway, the Hobie founder (Bill Hobie was it?) was a surf orientated type, so in keeping with tradition, Hobie ought to mnake an optional extra fitting to give stability and control for surfing in steep following seas. I have had to run before a strong beeze and steep following waves for several miles and it becomes quite taxing...not to say worrying...when you are wondering if you are going to pitch-pole when still several miles away from safety.
Ah the joys of youth...my adrenalin glands are worn out!
