Haka....the best way to increase the "Ho Ho Ho" factor when sailing.

Great Video ! I'm just surprised that Hobie hasn't engineered a set of hakas for the masses. They are my favorite addon. NOHUHU and Batman have made their mark in Hobie History.
I agree!

I put them in the same category as the Hobie Mirage Drive. Until you try one, you don't completely get "it", no matter how hard someone tries to describe the experience.

Great work guys!

Stringy or someone--I have not been able to see that video image on my WIN 8 machine. So, could you please put a link to the video here?

Thanks,

Keith

What Bob and Captain Chaos said....though a rotomolded set wouldn't look anywhere near as good!

Keith,
The link here:

If that doesn't work just Google "aistringy" for my youtube channel.

Thanks, Stringy. Unfortunately for me, my WIN 8 apparently does not have a viewer for that format or, maybe, I've got specify a particular viewer.

Keith,
I had the same problem and discovered if you go down to the very bottom of the video screen you will see 'you tube'. Click on that and you will be able to view the video.

Got to take the Ti out for a second time and this time a solo test for the HAKAS and Spinlock tiller extension

Things learnt this time

1 if sailing solo with an evolve drive either extend the reefing line to the rear or swap out the evolve until you need it otherwise you are jumping into the rear every time you tack and need some peddle power

2 The roll bar I made up thinking the revo had the same back dimensions as the Ti does not fit

3 The bolts that fit the sheet cleat into the akas only go in in a little way so the swivel cleat i was going to use has to wait until I get shorter bolts.

4 you need to adjust the rudder to stop any delay and get the lines tight

5 my AMA still leaks !

6 I need to add double bungees to the AMAS to stop them banging up and down. (admittedly some of that was due to the water in one of them)

Way to fly that thing, CC. Thanks for the VIdeo.

1. The evolve motor below the waterline should be nothin but a drag on you while sailing in good wind like that. Most of us would ditch it until needed.

3. Yes- there is precious little metal for the screws to grab. The screws will have to be trimmed to exact length then fixed with loktite. Any extending threads will jam the Aka retainer clips. We used a grinder.

4. Could you translate/rephrase this for use non-english speakers in the states? ;-)

I would normally comment on the rods being so far forward, but I'll wait till you have time to assess how they work there. Let us know.

Great work.

Chopcat:
For number 6, instead of the double bungy, I ran a 1/4 dia nylon line from the stainless cleat in the middle of the left AMA up around front left AKA brace, then back behind the mast assembly, then back in front of the right AKA brace, then clipped onto the stainless cleat in the center of the right AMA. What this does is prevent the AMA's from clanking around, and also in the event of a sheer pin breakage, the rope prevents the AMA's from folding in. I tend to sail kind of hard at times and have sheared off several AMA sheer bolts.
Hope this helps
Bob

It makes sense to me and we speak even less English in Oz.
When I got my new AI hull, the rudder lines were so loose that I could turn the rudder lever through 90° before getting any response from the rudder.

Rod position is a very good point.

I have them forward to keep clear of the sail but am tempted to try making a roll bar to control the sheet and pet some rod h orders there, although I am concerned about the loads that will put on the roll bar ( made from plastic pipe) and on the sailing characteristics.

Where does everyone else put their rods?

Cc
