My dad is in town this weekend and ever since I got into fishing from my Hobie I've wanted to take him out with me. I wanted to take him offshore but it looks like this weekend's weather will not cooperate. So I'll take it easy on the old man and just hit up the grass flats to see if there are any trout in the area. I figure at the very least he will enjoy the experience and scenery. Fish would be nice too though!

The only other Hobie I can get my hands on is a loaner Mirage Sport from a good friend. My dad is 5'11" 175lbs and I'm 5'7" 205lbs, do you think he would be ok in the Sport or should I take the shorter yak and give him my Revo 11? I figured as a noob, he would prefer the stability of the sport more than the revo.

Sport is the way to go. Far more stable.

I have a Sport and it will be perfect for your dad. I fish out of it as well.

Here is a Hobie Sport and a Hobie Revolution11 tied to the roof rack. This was the first time I ever tried to put two kayaks on the roof and I DO NOT advise anyone do so the same way I did. Had I planned this right I would have asked a friend with a pickup to assist us. We ended up tying across the hulls with two staps and through the hulls (hobie drivewell) with another strap. We drove slow and took city streets most of the way.

Here's dad wondering what the hell he signed up for:

We got a total of 3 sea trout, one snook, and countless pinfish and baby barracuda.

My overslot Trout:

And here's dad with the overslot Snook we caught:

Dad absolutely loved the experience and wants to get his own kayak in the future :D

Should you need to transport two kayaks again or even one for that matter, it is highly recommended to use a tie down from the bow and stern, of each kayak, to the vehicle.

Jcanracer,

It sure sounds and looks like you both had a great experience together. :D

Thank you for sharing.

Thanks guys.
MrGreen, you're right of course, I just didn't plan properly. I don't even have a strap long enough to secure bow to bumper; I don't usually do that when I am carrying my Revo alone.

I am going to suggest the Outback for my Dad since he is not as familiar with kayaking and would benefit from the stability (he loved the Sport model's stability) and extra rod holders.
