Old post but wondering if anyone knows where to stay that has good access for day trips on the Black Canyon?
Trying to plan a vacation in June (5-15) and this may be it. Do you think it is safe to bring kids (3 and 7) on this stretch of River? Is swimming advisable anywhere for the kids?

as an aside, as of this year NV requires an aquatic invasive species (AIS) decal on any boat in state water.

details here: http://www.ndow.org/Boat/Aquatic_Invasi ... formation/

cbump- The Hacienda is the only hotel/casino close to the dam. Rooms were $40 a night last week. Pets ok with no deposit. Food was good. (My brother and his wife just stayed there)

I would probably keep the kids close to shore. The wind is constant during the summer (from the south) and can make it feel like a roller coaster ride. The water is pretty cold year 'round. There's plenty of shore line by the marina to set up chairs, shade etc. Plenty of parking.

Hope this helps :)
