Are the red and black fins the same material, but a different colour? Or do the Red fins signify a different capability or material?

If you're a shark or other blood thirsty creature, the red and black fins might signify "eat me". Otherwise, they might just signify "buy me". Or there may be any one of other explanations that I am missing?

With the red fins, they will be easier to find when you go back to the launch after you forgot to put them in the vehicle after a day of fishing.

If it's on the internet it must be true. However, not for me. Have heard lots of stories from others about doing that. Probably more stories about leaving the MD drive at home and getting to the launch only to discover......

I've read more than one local tale of loosing the MD in the surf while launching or landing... Red might make it easier to find with the snorkel gear. I think a $20 leash is a better option myself...
