Yeah, I know, Do a Search............ I have, over and over and over.......

I just cannot decide.

I like the price of the Vinyl Tramps. I like the idea of it being not as wet if I were to sail when the water is cooler (Oct- Dec).

I dont like the price of the Mesh, but I like the idea of it not acting like a Sail when flying a hull, and that it will let some spray through when it is hot out. But where I live, I dont expect alot of heavy wind..

I remember the itchy butt from sitting in a pool of water, not the greatest feeling in the world. But figure with a tight tramp may not have to worry as much.

OK, Rant Over!

I'd take an open mesh, if I could find such a thing for the AI TI tramps.

Love the vinyl. It's dryer when it's very windy and choppy. More comfortable on the bare skin. As far as wind under the tramp, it's fun to play with the balance vs wind.

sxrracer - I've had the vinyl tramp for about 15 years and the mesh tramp for the past 15 years or so. I prefer the mesh tramp. Some water comes up through the mesh on a very windy day, but I think most of the water comes up through the lacing or over the rails on both the vinyl or mesh tramps. The water receeds quickly from the mesh tramp and collects as puddles on the vinyl tramp. Either way you'll get wet on both tramps on a windy day, but I really don't like sitting in a puddle of water on the vinyl tramp. Even though I kept the vinyl tramp very tight, I don't think it helped keep the water from puddling.
My wife bought neoprene shorts for our kayak years ago. I suppose that will help????

That is the number one reason to get a mesh tramp. I got the mesh tramps as soon as they became class legal in 1989 and have never looked back.

On the rare occasion when I got a new (to me) boat that came with a vinyl tramp, I was reminded very quickly why I preferred mesh tramps - and replaced the vinyl tramp as soon as I could.

My experience is pretty limited compared to most of the guys that replied already, but I have sailed on both and I prefer mesh, both were wet rides, I raced all last season on the mesh we race with a pretty broad group of people, I've seen people wearing volleyball style knee pads, I just put up with it for a couple weeks until the calluses build up on my knees. Being in the early phase of my sailing career I immediately jumped on the mesh wagon once i heard that it is less of a capsize aid than vinyl, after that my thought process was that it would something very significant to change my mind. On top of that my perception on our lake was that all of the fast guys had mesh. So, I'm on a mesh tramp now. On hot summer days the extra spray is great, on days where I'm pushing my limits I like knowing that I don't have another variable to worry about. Early and late in the year I just dress appropriately.
With all that said, I picked up a 16 this weekend for some parts that I need. I has a 3 piece Hobie brand heat sealed mesh tramp in good shape (8 out of 10 I would say) Black with blue hiking straps. Right now it is an extra to me so if you are interested let me know. I'll be posting it here soon but I'll give you a chance to reply. $240 shipped
Pretty much thishttp://sailsportmarine.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=120

Good luck making a choice, you'll have fun either way.

I have had original hobie vinyl great stuff like all hobie factory stuff
I do not race anymore and the mesh aftermarket tramps are great and cheap
The mesh diagonal lace on the 16 is just good engineering
The mesh tramp on the 21SE is 23 years old and still looks new however it needed a resew with new thread last year
If beer is consumed on the Hobie then a mesh tramp becomes even more important

Put me in the mesh camp.

The spray coming through the tramp isn't that big of a deal when it is cold, not as far as I am concerned.. When it is cold and you are not dressed properly that little bit of water isn't a game changer.. But every bit of spray you can get is nice when it is hot.

I hate sitting in a puddle.. and you cant get a vinyl tramp tight enough to not have some type of puddle...

Anybody ever weighed them? 8)

Haha, I've been avoiding windows 8 like the plague, not sure why, I guess it's because if I'm going to go through that much change then I'll switch to mac.

Sorry I sent them as a zip file because they were so big and I didn't want to shrink them down so that you couldn't see any detail.

I do paypal, gotta love it!

I'll shoot you another email.

I can understand if your using a "Windows Phone". I played with one when I got my Iphone (Work covers, they said to get IPHONE). The Windows phone was easy to operate. So, they said "Lets make an OS that works just like the phone. If you have a touch screen then it would work. with a normal computer or laptop it is a royal PITA.
