I have 2 small tears. One not all the way through but looks like just mostly red material of sail and looks like part of clear. Applied Tear Aid-Type A but it does not seem like it wants to stick real well or hold. I kept rubbing it in and did not seem like it wants to stay. I added a little heat with hair dryer and seems it is a little better but not real confident will hold with sail full of wind.
Other tear I noticed runs through clear plastic mostly down to red edge material and this tear goes through on both sides of clear section. I applied Tear Aid-Type A tape again and it sticks a lot better to the clear than red material of sail. I noticed with rubbing tape on sail that the rough sections of sail and little black plastic lines in sail are popping through tape. I added another little section of repair tape but I am worried with full sail that pressure on tape and rough sections of plastic will wear through tape quickly.
I thought this tape would be a little more durable. I started reading kite boarding forms and windsurfing forums for some ideas.
Should I cut out rough sections? Sail repair is not my strength. Plus these sails have more plastic or different different material than other sails I have had to do a quick fix on in past.
Are there better tapes for Hobie Island Sail material or is my method wrong?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
